What: Ninth edition of an annual bilateral maritime exercise between Indian Navy and Russian Navy began.
Where: Visakhapatnam and Bay of Bengal
Aim:
- To increase inter-operability between the two navies.
- Develop common understanding and procedures for maritime security operation.
The exercise will be held in two phases:
Phase I: Harbour Phase
- This phase will be conducted at Visakhapatnam from 14th to 18th December.
- Will encompass table-top exercise, planning conference and professional interactions prior to progressing to sea.
Phase II: The Sea Phase
- It will be conducted off Visakhapatnam coast from 19th to 21st December.
- Exercises will be on Anti-Submarines warfare, Surface firing, Air Defence Drills, and Tactical Procedures.
About INDRA (Naval Exercise)
- Indra Navy is a joint bilateral Maritime exercise conducted by India and Russia.
- It started in 2003.
- The primary aim of INDRA Navy exercise is to boost cooperation and interoperability between the Russian and Indian Navies.
- The exercise involves:
- Air Defence Drills
- Live Firing Drills
- Submarine Operations
- Terrorism and drug smuggling operations.
