Army Jawans to finally get their first modern helmet


Helmet is an essential piece of kit for army jawans as it can be the difference between life and death during military operations.

After waiting for more than two decades, the jawans of the Indian Army will be equipped with a world class helmet, which will be manufactured by MKU industries, and will be delivered within three years.

Currently the jawans are wearing heavy domestically-made helmets, known as patka, which weigh more than 2.5 kg and are not comfortable to wear during combat situations.

About the Modern Helmet:

  • An Indian Company, the Kanpur-based MKU Industries, has been contracted to manufacture 1.58 lakh helmets in a deal worth around Rs 170-180 Crore.
  • The new helmets can bear the impact of 9 mm ammunition fired from a short range and are also designed to be comfortable.
  • It can be integrated with communication devices.
  • It will be lighter than the the current 2.5 kg - weighing helmet, reducing the hurdle faced by the army during situations of combat.
