The Government on 17th December 2016 appointed Air Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa as the new Chief of Indian Air Force (IAF) on 01 Jan 2016 succeeding Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha.
About Birender Singh Dhanoa:
- Air Marhal B S Dhanoa is presently Vice Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force since 01 June 2015 and will assume the post of Air Chief after Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha retires on Dec 2016.
- Dhanoa was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in June 1978.
- He undertook several night-time strike missions while commanding a fighter squadron during Kargil conflict in 1999.
- He has held several key operational and administrative appointments in his 37 years of career including Station Commander of a fighter base and as a leader of an Indian Military Training Team abroad.
