New Vice Chief of Army Staff

Indian Army staff got its new Vice Chief. Lt. General Sarath Chand, on 12th Jan, appointed as the new vice chief of the Army staff, during an Army ceremony.

About Lt. General Sarath Chand:

  • Lt. General Sarath Chand had an outstanding professional career spanning over 38 years and was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in June 1979.
  • He is an alumnus of Sainik School, Kazhakootan (Trivandrum), National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, Pune and IMA, Dehradun.
  • He is also a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, the Higher Command Course and the National Defence College, New Delhi.
  • He was awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal for distinguished operational service while commanding a corps in the North East.
  • He also received the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished services while commanding counter insurgency Force in Kashmir and for service at Army HQ.
  • Lt. Gen Sarath Chand took over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Jaipur-based South-Western command- 'Sapta Shakt', in Feb 2015.
  • He has served in every important military theatre of India and has been in active combat leadership in every stage of command in the Army.
