What: Joint Maritime Exercise 'Konkan 16' between India and UK begins.
Where: Mumbai.
- The 2016 edition of the annual bilateral maritime exercise 'Konkan-16' between the Indian Navy and the British Navy started on 5-Dec in Mumbai, Maharastra and will be held till 16-Dec-2016.
- The exercise will be conducted in two phases.
- Phase-I in Mumbai:
- To be held from 05 to 09 Dec.
- Command planning exercises will be conducted.
- Planning for combined maritime operations. - Phase-II in Goa:
- To be held from 12 to 16 Dec.
- Involves interaction between the Indian Marine Commandos and the Royal Marines.
About Konkan Exercises:
- The exercise KONKAN is the annual bilateral maritime exercise between Indian and UK to strengthen the existing bonds of friendship and enhance the capability and operational inter-operability between the two navies
- KONKAN exercise is named after the Western Coastal region of India, and was institutionalised in 2004.
