Laser walls on India - Pak border in Punjab by Dec 18


What: Indo-Pak international border in Punjab will be sealed with laser walls.

When: 18-Dec-2016

  • To raise the security level, the unfenced stretches along the India and Pakistan border will be covered by laser walls soon.
  • All these riverine stretches located in Punjab will be covered bt the laser wall technology, developed by Border Security Forces to completely eliminate the chances of breach of the international border by the Pakistan based terror groups, a Home Minister official said.
  • Each laser wall will secure an area of 250 to 500 meters.
  • Around 200 laser walls will be installed,
  • The lasers will detect movement and beam the exact location to the BSF.
  • Advanced satellite-based signal command system equipped with night and fog visibility tools will be used for monitoring.

About Laser Wall:
  • A laser wall is a mechanism to detect object passing the line of sight between the laser source and the detector.
  • Stronger lasers can potentially be used to injure someone or something passing the laser bean.

Indo - Pakistani Border:
  • The border runs from the Line of Control (LOC), which separates the Indian controlled kashmir from Pakistan controlled kashmir.
  • Wagah border partitioned the Indian Punjab state and Punjab province of Pakistan.
  • The zero point separates the Indian state of Gujarat and Rajasthan to Sindh province of Pakistan.
