The Government of India on 17th Dec’16, appointed Lt. Gen Bipin Rawat as the new Army Chief. He succeeds General Dalbir Singh who is going to retire on 31st Dec’16.
About Lt. Gen Bipin Rawat:
- Lt Gen Bipin Rawat is the present Vice Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army since 1st September 2016.
- He will assume the new post of Chief of Army Staff on 1st Jan 2017.
- Lt. Gen Bipin Rawat was commissioned into the 5th Battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles on 16th Dec 1978 and has a vast experience in high altitude warfare and counter insurgency operations and the deserts.
