Indian Navy's Seventh Landing Craft Utility L-57 Launched by GRSE

What: Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) launched Indian Navy's seventh landing craft utility (LCU) L-57.

Where: Kolkata, West Bengal

About LCU L-57:
  • LCU - L57 is the 7th vessel in the series of LCU ships designed by GRSE for Indian Navy.
  • This is the largest ship of this kind built anywhere in the world.
  • Maximum Speed: 15 Knots.
  • Capability to transport two tanks or four special vehicles and 150 Army Troops.
  • Can be deployed in multirole activities like beaching operations, humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

Landing Craft Utility (LCU):
  • It is a type of boat used by amphibious forces to transport equipment and troops to the shore.
  • Capable of transporting / deploying tracked or wheeled vehicles and troops.
