What: India signs $1.4 Bn Contracts with Israel

Who signed the contracts?
The contracts were signed in the presence of Brig. Gen. (Retd) Mishel Ben Baruch, Director, SIBAT, Israel Ministry of Defence and Indian Defence Secretary G Mohan Kumar.
About the contract:
The $1.4 billion contract with Israel Aerospace Industries is for the purchase of two additional Phalcon/IL-76 Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems (AWACs) and 10 Heron TP Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs).
Airborne Early Warning and Control (AWAC):
- AWAC system is an airborne radar picket system.
- Detects aircraft, ships and vehicles at long range.
- Perform command and control of battlespace.
- Carry out surveillance, including over ground targets and frequently perform Command and Control, battle management functions similar to an Ait Traffic Controller given Military command over other forces.
Heron UAV:
- Medium-altitude long-endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.
- Manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries.
- Capable of operations of up to 52 hours duration at up to 10.5 km.
- Israeli Defence Forces, Indian Air Force, Brazilian Federal Police and Turkish Air Force are the primary users.
