INS Kalvari To Be Commissioned Shortly


  • India's first scorpene class submarine 'INS Kalvari' under project 75 is likely to be commissioned into Indian navy very shortly.
  • INS Kalvari was launches on 28 Oct 2015 and has completed its Bazin Trials, Harbor Acceptance Trials and Dive Trails
  • INS kalvari is the first of the Indian Navy's six Kalvari-class submarine being built in India.
  • 30% of the equipment on the Kalvari is made in India giving a boost to 'Make In India' concept.
  • Features:
    - Length: 61.7 m
    - Beam: 6.2 m
    - Draught: 5.4 m
    - Draft: 5.8 m
    - Speed: 20 knots when submerged and 12 knots on surface.
    - Range: 6500 miles at 8 knots speed (surfaced) and 550 miles at 5 knots (submerged)
    - Endurance: 40 days compacts and 50 days normal.
  • Kalvari has a superior stealth technology and can launch massive attacks through precision guided weapons.

  • The Kalvari class is a class of submarines based on the Scorpene - class submarine being built for the Indian Navy.
  • It is a class of diesel - electric attack submarine which is designed by French naval defence and energy company DCNS and being manufactured by Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai.
